First a quick thank you for all the people who took part in our survey, and watch for the next one coming up! Your input and feedback are extremely important to us.

So THE BEST Haunted houses in Michigan 2019... have I been to any?! Before writing this post . . . . no. I mean no, I mean absolutely not. Yes, I mean no, I scare easily, and I know people love them. Check out the video to see how that went. That said after checking a couple out I have to admit I'LL NEVER GO TO ANOTHER ONE AGAIN.

I do have one memory of a great one, however, and what made it great it totally unique. The neighborhood I grew up in, Hunt Club in Farmington Hills, did an amazing job with Halloween for the kids, and later I found out, the adults! There were 4 cider and doughnut stops (to find out the best place for cider click here) and as an adult I now know there were two different kinds of cider, if you know what I mean. One just a bit out of reach for the kiddos. So we had this nice, 242 home development (I'm a Real Estate Agent, so I note these things after all) with amazing participation and us kids, running, just running from house to house to get to the candy as fast as possible. We already pre-planned our skips, the houses that gave apples, pennies and the one dentist in the neighborhood. I apologize to all the dentists reading the post, not intending to offend, 10-year-old Mike was just not the least bit interested in toothbrushes. Of course, double hitting the homes that gave full-sized candy bars. For all of you that do or did that, there's a special place in Heaven for you. You know who you are, and each and every one of you deserves a Sainthood.

So there was this one house, I couldn't even tell you the family name however if anyone reading this knows who it is, make sure that family gets my gratitude. So there's this one house, that went all out. They started preparing for Halloween a MONTH before. Not putting a few decorations out, really preparing. They created a mini-haunted house encompassing their entire garage, first floor of their house and driveway. Each year it was movie themed and they really knocked it out of the park with the decor, construction and animatronics. This guy that put this together, just gives me hope for humanity, he's the reason we made it to the moon, and was the only thing that could knock kids off track of getting to each house as fast as possible and go through his creation multiple time.

The two best years, in my opinion, were when he did Jurassic Park, with moving dinosaurs, a marsh, mist, fog, the whole 9. They built a moving T-Rex. I mean for real. Second: When he did Pirates of the Caribbean. They built a half a ship, BUILT A HALF A SHIP, sticking out of his garage, the whole thing was several feet off the ground and held 12-15 people easily. His house sided to a home painted white (the garage faced it) so he'd have the movie playing against the next-door house.

If anyone has photos of this home please post them in the comments or send them to me, I'd love to relive those memories!

It was the best of times and it was the . . . . well, the best of times. On with the post.

#1 - Azra Chamber of Horrors Haunted House

31401 John R Road, Madision Heights MI 48071

Azra Website Click Here

(Video) THE Best Haunted Houses in Michigan 2019 Edition!

This one didn't just top our list, it's topped multiple lists and came in the top 20 in the nation according to Scare Factor. I'm giving it a particular tip of the hat and nod as it's only in its second year of operation. This one has all you can ask for and more! Not only is there a haunted house, there's ax throwing, an escape room, Rage rooms (I'm not sure what that is but I'm excited to find out!) and Virtual Reality Escape Rooms! This one is an entire night of fun.

With 40-50 actors on-site there is no lack of content and scares. Typically there's ramp up on actor ability with new haunted houses, but I gotta say, I don't know if they trained really well, stole or kidnapped these actors, they're amazing. These guys have it where it counts. Further, their animatronics are top notch and I won't be surprised to see more than one comment saying "I thought that was a real dinosaur!" I totally lost the story of Azra and escaping Azra's lair by the awesome effects, and . . . . . clowns.

This one is an easy find. Just look for the dragon, the person on fire, and the food trucks. It's an experience not to be missed this season. This is the best-haunted house near me.

#2 Erebus Haunted House

18 S Perry St, Pontiac, MI 48342

Erebus Website Click Here

If Azra is the crown prince, Erebus is the king. The Terebus Brothers got into the business of scare in 1981 and never looked back. In 2000 they struck out on their own and opened Erebus, grabbing onto and holding the Guinness Book of World Records for the Longest Haunted House until 2005, and is still the longest in Michigan. Bring your walking shoes. This 4 story haunt is an absolute must on our tour. Definitely a toss-up for number one on our list this year but if not number one a must for the number two spot on our Best Haunted Houses in Michigan 2019. 24,000 likes and growing on its Facebook page can't be wrong. For anyone living in metro Detroit, this is a top haunted house near me.

The storyline: The Good Doctor Colber is working on perfecting time travel, but he lost all his test subjects to the annals of time, and his funding is dried up. Now he has a new crop of subjects and funding, YOU. As you buy your ticket you're unwittingly funding his deranged experiment. His experiment on you!

#3 Hush Haunted House

37550 Cherry Hill Rd, Westland, MI 48185

Hush Website Click Here

It's no surprise Hush Haunted House made the list of the Best Haunted houses in Michigan 2019. Another haunted house near me, a quick drive to Westland. This one was on the top of the list in 2013, and with the 2016 move to a larger location and expanded further it's bigger and better than ever. Now it houses three haunts in one with The Decent, The Coven and Rosecliff Hall.

The Decent: Beneath Hush Falls, trapped miners found. . . . something. Now we go down to see what's there via a secret elevator commissioned to save the lost mining contingent.

The Coven: Located in a New Orleans crypt that's been disturbed by us, the Casper Coven of witches burned at the stake and buried here are now rousing and brought back to life. They've planned their revenge on mankind through the horrific voodoo arts and it doesn't stop there.

Rosecliff Hall: The Clarke family purchased this home (not from Michael Perna Real Estate or The Perna Team!) for a song, not knowing it had been home to ghastly murders. The Clarke children found the torture rooms, and slowly the spirits inhabiting Rosecliff Hall caused the family to turn on each other and murder each other leaving none alive. Like so many others before them.

Hush Haunted House in Westland has been featured in the Metro Times, Business Insider, NBC, ABC, USA Today's Top Haunts and more. This one is a staple and a haunted house near me not to be missed.

#4 Haunted House at Blake Farms

17985 Armada Center Rd, Armada, MI 48005

(Video) Two haunted houses in mid-Michigan will scare you silly

Click for Blakes Farms Website

This one is for the kid in us, or the kids we bring with us. For the 13 and under crowd Blakes is the best haunted house in Michigan 2019 by far. This one features a 3 story haunted barn with live actors and the black hole. Nightly bonfires, the Spooky Land 3D maze with straw mountain while playing Halloween movie favorites. The Haunted Hayride claims to have suggested age minimum, but rather says be careful of your scare threshold. Then goes on to have chainsaw-wielding actors coming at you.

Last but not the least in our book is . . . . Zombie Paintball. Yes, this is totally the second and not the last time we've mentioned this. You get a paintball gun with 75 shots, get on a huge army sized truck and make your way through 10 acres of zombie-infested woods and land. Seeing the lines for this attraction makes me feel a little bad for the actors. Totally got over that one quickly, please pass the refill!

#5 Exit 13 Haunted House

6069 Saginaw Street, Mt Morris MI 48505

Click for Exit 13's Website!

Exit 13 is one of the most well thought out on the list of Best Haunted Houses in Michigan 2019 edition. These guys begin setting up as early as March and don't stop until it's done. This is a "touch" haunted house which creates extra thrills and scares and no worries if you're not into the "touch" scene, you can get monster repellent ahead of time to keep the monsters away. Revamped in 2019 this one promises to have extra thrills. The blood is bloodier than most and the chills more chilling.

This one may not be one of the closest haunted houses near me, but it's worth the drive. Many of the costumes look handmade, the secret rooms and dead ends are both amazing and frustrating, which makes them amazing. There's even a simulation coffin portions emulating being buried alive. Stop by the gift shop on the way out, they have all kinds of goodies!

#6 Screams in the Dark Haunted Attractions! - Traverse City

3606 Blair Town Hall Road
Traverse City, MI 49685

Click for Screams in the Dark Haunted Attractions Website!

Traverse City?! Yes, Traverse City. Partly because I'm always looking for a reason to go and while I'm there stop by the best BBQ joint in the entire state: Sparks BBQ. I smell another Top 10 coming on, but I digress, let's keep on keeping on. Screams in the Dark is Michigan's largest haunted event when you combine ALL the things they have going. And they have a lot going.

  • The Swamp of Suffering - The Infected
  • Dreadmore Manor
  • Pandemonium
  • The Mausoleum
  • Haunted Hayride
  • Haunted Trail
  • & Blackwood Cemetery

Just to name a few of the attractions, and redone for 2019. This Haunt was given a 9.75 out of 10 by people who've visited on Scare Factor and with good reason. There's a little something for everyone.

#7 Wiards Orchard Night Terrors

5565 Merritt Road, Ypsilanti MI 48197

Click for Wiards Orchard Night Terrors Website!

Making the list again is Wiards! This one made our Top 10 Cider Mills and how it's back on our Best Haunted Houses in Michigan 2019! Wiards Orchard is Haunted! During the Month of October, spirits rise throughout its 89-acre orchard! Named number 31 on the list of top haunts in the entire United States for good reason. They take it beyond Cider and Doughnuts.

The Asylum: The inmates are running it. The Ultimate Haunted Barn: Escape if you can. The Hayride of the Lost: This is one scary hayride, the parents need permission to go on this one. The Mineshaft, Spattertown Zombie Paintball and ALIEN CAGED CLOWNS. That last one needs no explanation. Stop in and see why this one is on the list of Best Haunted Houses in Michigan 2019.

(Video) Eloise Asylum - Michigan's newest and terrifying haunted house

#8 The Haunt

1256 28th Street SW
Wyoming, MI 49509

Click for The Haunt's Website!

New Location, New Owner, bigger, badder and better than ever. This one is a watcher on the list of Best Haunted Houses in Michigan 2019. I personally feel this is a sleeper and will quickly gain traction under new leadership. Scare Factor and Coaster Nation has noted this as in the top 10 in Michigan and in the top 50 in the US both.

Take a drive to West Michigan, get to The Haunt. Visit Dark Manor, where Tinkles was raised in pure insanity. See the Vox Sanitarium:After spending most of his adolescents in the Vox Sanitarium, Tinkles returns to take over the crazy asylum. Try to escape from Condemned: the long shut down manikin factory that was thought to be abandoned. The sludge dumped in the swamp behind the Immortous Manikin factory has created mutant beasts in the swamp. Finally, step right up to the sinister circus.

#9 Deranged Haunt

35560 Goddard Road
Romulus, MI 48174

Click for The Deranged Haunt's Website!

This one is definitely on the up and up. It's a new haunt but don't hold that against them. Coming in at number 9 on our best haunted houses in Michigan 2019 is Deranged Haunt in Romulus. It's considered an "Old Skool" low tech haunt, and those are some of my personal favorite kind. Please note this one is completely outside, if it's a hot and buggy season, wear some spray.

First blamed on a "lack of funding" the truth is coming out about a government cover-up on why this town died, and you're about to walk through the worst 5 acres of it. Monsters and Mutants, the product of toxic dumpage only want one thing, your flesh. Before word got out, and after this 5 acre part of town was left for dead by the kids' summer camp that used to inhabit it, a carnival came to town, set up camp, and never left.

#10 Cedar Point - Sandusky Ohio

1 Cedar Point Dr, Sandusky, OH 44870

Click for Cedar Points Website!

Okay, okay - this one may not be in Michigan, however, and maybe only for setimental reasons, this one just scooted into our top 10. Yes it had a ton of write in votes that merited it being on the list. Yes it harkens back to when I was a youth. No it's not in Michigan. It's alright. Just go with it. It'll be good,

Cedar Point has been in the business of entertainment for 150 years and is looking forward to the next 150 by having an ever-evolving collection of rides and coasters. During the Halloween season, they go all out. Not 4, not 6, not 9, but 27 DIFFERENT HALLOWEEN ATTRACTIONS AND RIDES abound.

Collectively called "Halloweekends" there's the not so scary weekend family fun named the Great Pumpkin Fest (Charlie Brown wink wink) and for the adults there's . . . . .

  • Blood on the Bayou
    • Along the dark murky waters of the bayou are nightmares too wicked to explain!
  • The Boneyard Battleground
    • This one is a fight to the "death" - music, flames, action and you get to choose the champion
  • Cornstalkers 2.0: Revenge of the Pumpkin Heads
    • This is a demented, foggy cornfield where even the corn stalks themselves may come to life while you're trying to get through it
  • Cut Throat Cove
    • Batten down the hatches and get ready for forgotten pirates from long lost ships to come after anyone after their treasure!
  • Day of the Dead
    • This is an all you can eat feast in honor of those that have passed before us. Try the chicken, it's really chicken, and really really good.
  • Dead End Kitchen Ally
    • More food options from a plethora of food trucks from burgers to desserts.
  • Deprivation
    • Not for the claustrophobic or the faint of heart. Deprivation is in complete darkness as you try to escape
  • Fall Foodfest
    • Fire-roasted corn, fresh doughnuts, turkey legs, and more, all the foods of fall in one spot
  • Fearground Freakshow
    • The good Professor Von Fleece has scoured the world looking for just the right combination of entertainers for his show!
  • The Rides (of course)
  • G.A. Boeckling's Eerie Estate
  • Gypsy Fortune Tellers
  • The Pumpkin Spectacular
  • Happily Never After
  • Harvest Fear
  • Hexed: Lights Out
  • Midnight Syndicate: Creatures of the Dark
  • Night of the Living Dead
  • Raging Inferno
  • The Slaughter House
  • Tombstone Terror-tory
  • Toxicity
  • The Trail of the Forsaken
  • And Zombie High School

I'm sure I forgot a few in there. This one is a full day (or night) extravaganza and worth the couple 2-3 hour drive. I thought about writing a complete and full description of the Cedar Point attractions vs. just taking a stab at a few, but didn't want to extend the write up by another 5 thousand words!

Honorable mentions - There's more?!

You better bet your Aunt Bessie's bottom-buck there's a bevy of Haunts not on the list and worth checking out. I ran out of words that start with B to finish the sentence. Someone help a guy out.

Featuring two optional 5-minute escape rooms, judging by the name I think I'm going to have to check this one out this weekend.

Awaken Haunted Attractions - Leslie MI

4760 Churchill Rd, Leslie, MI 49251

These guys have multiple locations and looking at the individual review, all are great, however, the Ann Arbor location stands out above all of them
